Poppi Class Action Lawsuit: All You Need To Know

Poppi is a sparkling drink that has been gaining immense popularity for a couple of years. It is described as a prebiotic soda, like a kind of soda that is more beneficial to health. The creators of Poppi love to use phrases like “gut health” and “prebiotic fiber” to try and convince you that it’s really great for your stomach. And this is precisely the reason behind this very Poppi Class Action Lawsuit. Yup, it is all about those fake claims and dishonest advertising.

What’s the Poppi Class Action Lawsuit All About?

OK, so without any further ado, let me present to you the whole thing. VNGR Beverage, a company that stands as the parent brand of Poppi, is in the middle of a legal dispute with the consumers who filed a class action suit. What was the problem, you say? According to some customers, “Hold on, is this drink really doing wonders for our guts, or are you just saying that to sell more cans?”

The truth is the latter one. According to the suit, the drinks of Poppi don’t include enough of the said “good stuff,” like inulin, to deliver any digesting aid. Inulin is the soluble fiber that is claimed to be the main source of the mechanical work of the gut; it is present in such products as agave and chicory root. It is good for you, only if you take a sufficient amount of it.

Per each can of Poppi, there are around 2 grams of fiber. That’s all! But the question is: why just one of the punches when you need a minimum of 5 grams per day, as stated in the National Institutes of Health? Some say even up to 20 grams is needed. Therefore, to experience any positive effects, you have to consume at least two and a half cans every day (and this is being frugal!). And frankly speaking, who is into drinking so much sparkling water?

What Did the Lawsuit Actually Say?

The main goal of this lawsuit is to show it in their faces like “Poppi, you’re telling us this soda is great for our guts, but the science doesn’t back that up. You need to tone down those health claims.”

Although Poppi did not admit they were wrong, nope, they kept their soda and said the lawsuit was “groundless.” However, however, they also consented to pay the lawsuit, a whopping $8.9 million. This action is not really consistent with their claim that the mistake is not on them, do you not think so?

And for your information, the suit goes so far as to include every single individual who bought Poppi between January 23, 2020, to July 18, 2025. A broad five-year period of Poppi buyers.

Pepsi’s Big Move and a Twist

Wow! You wouldn’t believe it, would you? In a dramatic move, earlier in 2025, PepsiCo made everyone go gobsmacked by acquiring the firm Poppi. This act of grandeur set PepsiCo back a jaw-dropping $1.95 billion. Keeping in mind the fact that it is highly unlikely to imagine this astonishing amount of money, we can say that this lawsuit was indeed the wrong time. That’s what you call BAD timing.

Now, Pepsi plans to release a soda that is “healthy” for your bowels, something similar to Poppi. Well, there is just the smallest difference in the fiber amount as Pepsi’s prebiotic soda has 1 gram more fiber than by Poppi. Will it really make our health better and promote our gut bacteria, or is the release of a new product just a product marketing gimmick? Well, we’ll get to know that soon.
